Juniors competing ... we've talked to some of you, if you have any fight slots left over, we're selecting them for you. They'll all be "standardish", so if you want anything odd, get that request in now!
Jerry
as we talked, I accept the knife fighting, details to be worked out. Maybe 1 round with what you are most comfortable with, 1 round with what I am most comfortable with, and 1 round in between?
cheers
Joe
ok, we're looking at maybe 2 more weeks to finish getting your challenges in. You don't need all the details worked out, but we want to have the list of who is fighting who pretty darn soon.
You will need all the details worked out and agreed upon by a judge (me unless I'm in the fight) 2 weeks before the tournament.
All
Dr Zen is going to be putting up some unusual call-outs. Following the format of the Tournament, he has discussed this with a judge (me), and I agree that these are valid call-outs. Of course final decision and discussion is between the fighters, but his basic thoughts are valid for this tournament.
cheers
Joe
Dr Zen
you - 2 shortish (2 foot?) sticks
me - 1 longer (3 foot?) stick
I'd love to use some form of padded stick so we can whomp a little and not bust fingers, while still having gloves that allow grappling (with the sticks)
cheers
Joe
Sorry to hear that man, but I've seen ya in pain, can't argue with that. Hopefully we can do some pickups, if not maybe I'll toss a "rumble in the snow" this winter for those who can't make the fall tourney :)
The topics above that we've touched on in class don't go anywhere near as indepth as Wic's semminars do, and a lot of the stuff he's offering to teach will involve techniques that most of you have never seen. Highly recomended.
check the other thread under events for the rules
cheers!

"Something which has never occurred since time immemorial; a young woman did not fart in her husband's lap."
Ok, it's lame, but it's a Sumerian joke from 1900 BC, regarded as the oldest joke in the world.
I like this one better, from the 1st Century BC
Emperor Augustus was touring his realm and coming across a man who bears a striking resemblance to himself.
Intrigued, he asks the man: "Was your mother at one time in service at the palace?"
The man replies: "No your highness, but my father was."
Below is the link for the event. We'll be setting up Friday night, taking down Sunday afternoon. Figure we'll give 2 blocks of lessons on Saturday and Sunday, and more importantly do 2 demos each day. Table needs to be manned to talk to visitors.
As always, looking for volunteers to help setup, strike, give lessons, and man the tables.
As usual, students hanging out not only get to be in the demos, they get to try odd things we don't do in class (or at least dont do often).
This is a great hang out event. Invite friends, family, whomever.
Camping onsite is open for Live Steel/PIAMAC Adults. Sorry, after dark the juniors gotta go, we'll be bad bad role models after that :)
well, let's define good
1) tells the story and looks pretty, and is well done
2) tells the story and is somewhat realistic, and still looks pretty
3) tells the story and is mostly realistic
Recently re-watched "History of Violence" and it falls into #3 ... fairly realistic, and not pretty at all.
The latest Batman flick I'd put in #1 ... it looses realism because the bad guys were "compliant", but the moves themselves looked beleiveable.
For a very realistic movie, Ridley Scott's "The Duellists" is fantastic ... but non-sword geeks find it boring as heck.
Tournament will be on October 25th, at Dave's house. Tenative start time is 10 am.
I challenge Derek Fair to a demo fight, Derek with arming sword and hand axe, against me with a cutting/thrusting knife (all in wood). 3 30 second rounds, full body targeting, fencing mask, mouthguard and our padded gloves as gear. Grappling permitted, but stopped and reset as soon as a "kill" is made in the grapple.
To clarify: If I bumrush Derek and he tags me on the head with his axe on the way in, its stopped and reset. If I bumrush Derek we grapple and then I stab him, it's stopped and reset.
guys, drop me a line and we can talk about how many fights this will be ... I'm reading it as 4 fights (we're probably looking at a max of 10), not sure that is what you both intended.
cheers
